There’s action to break the adventure, and believe it or not, more wonderful series mythology that starts back in The Saga of Darren Shan. It was not what I expected. The third person perspective allowed me to see the thoughts and feelings of those around Larten, and didn’t limit the story by only showing xrepsley everything through his eyes.

For the uninitiated, it will be less interesting. This is his story. That leaves llarten last quarter of the book being a place where actually something happens – and this is the part that got Ocean of Blood a three-star rating instead of a lower one. She dies of course and the way in which she does is truly heartbreaking. Had the whole book been about this kind of vampire lifestyle, I would have abandoned the book.

Ocean of Blood is the second book in Darren Shan’s new series which revolves around the character of Larten Crepsley. The vampire party goes by in oecan blur. He runs around doing stuff, but almost everything is told, not shown. It was like a contest, the many tribes of mankind competing to see who could commit the worst atrocities.
